With broken hearts, the playwrights, board, and staff of New Dramatists mourn the passing of our beloved friend, champion, and Board President Emerita Isobel Robins Konecky.


Virtual Admissions Town Hall, Wednesday, July 6th @4pm ET

We will host a virtual Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, July 6th from 4pm-5pm ET to guide interested writers through the application and selection process and answer any questions. The Town Hall will be recorded and available to view on demand after the event. New Dramatists Resumes Admissions; Application Window to Open July 15, 2022

New Dramatists is thrilled to announce that after two years of suspended admissions, we will resume admissions and accept applications for our 7-year residencies and company membership in the summer of 2022.  Please note that the presence of COVID remains unpredictable, and as such, with New Dramatists’ COVID protocols firmly in place, operations are adjusted accordingly to keep our community safe. 

2022 Kleban Prize Winners Announced

CONGRATULATIONS to César Alvarez and Isabella Dawis, who have been named this year’s recipients of The Kleban Prize for Musical Theatre. César Alvarez (they/them) won the prize for Most Promising Musical Theatre Lyricist, and Isabella Dawis was named Most Promising Musical Theatre Librettist.

Active Listening, Season Two has launched!

Active Listening, Season Two has launched! This season features six new plays for the ear, written by ND residents C. Julian Jiménez, Karinne Keithley Syers, Kirk Wood Bromley, Matthew Freeman, Matthew Paul Olmos, and ND Communications & Advocacy Manager and playwright Naveen Bahar Choudhury.

Active Listening is a New Dramatists podcast series produced by ND residents Karinne Keithley Syers and Melisa Tien. The series invites writers to experiment with story, intimacy, and immediacy through sound experiences.
