Andrea Stolowitz is the Lacroute Playwright-in-Residence and a resident artist at Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon. She is a class of 2024 playwright at New Dramatists and is a core member of The Playwrights Center in Minneapolis where she will workshop and develop her plays over the next three years. In Portland she is a proud member of the group Playwrights West.
Andrea's plays have been developed and presented nationally and internationally and theaters such as The Cherry Lane, New York Stage and Film, The Old Globe, The Long Wharf, and English Theatre Berlin/International Performing Arts Center. Andrea’s latest play Successful Strategies, an adaptation of a Marivaux farce set on a Willamette Valley Vineyard which was developed at Artists Rep in 2017, premiered at Oregon Contemporary Theatre in February, 2018. Berlin Diary, Andrea’s semi auto-biographical tour de force was presented at English Theater Berlin/International Performing Arts Center in October 2016 and Portland’s Coho Theatre in April 2017 by Hand2Mouth Theatre. The play will be part of 2018 PlayLabs at the Playwrights' Center. A recipient of Artists Repertory Theater’s Fowler/Levin prize, Andrea premiered her play Ithaka at the theatre in 2013. The play had its mid-west premiere in Chicago in 2014, its Canada premiere in 2016 and won the Oregon Book Award in Drama.
Andrea works as a collaborating writer with the award-winning devised ensemble theater company Hand2Mouth Theatre. Their collaborations Pep Talk is touring nationally and they are currently at work on their latest collaboration Psychic Utopia which will premiere in Portland in November 2017.
An MFA playwriting alumna of UC-San Diego, Andrea currently serves on the faculty at Willamette University. She has also held faculty positions at The University of Portland, Duke University and UC-San Diego.
