In 1981 at a rundown sideshow in Kansas, the Oldest Living Tattooed Lady is paralyzed with stage fright and conjures her predecessors who help her find the courage to be seen and heard. Spanning roughly one hundred years of forgotten history and with an all female cast, The Tattooed Lady is a musical meditation on beauty, perversity, shattering of taboos, and a woman’s right to control her body and choose her destiny.

This musical reading is part of a 29-hour intensive workshop supported by The Frederick Loewe Musical Theatre Initiative to foster music-theatre development at New Dramatists.
