While the Disney empire is widely represented on Broadway with shows like The Lion King and Newsies, its founder is about to get some downtown stage time in Lucas Hnath's fictional play A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney.

Veteran stage, screen and television actor Larry Pine will play the iconic title character in this new work built around the reading of a screenplay by the visionary entertainment giant about his final days on earth.

According to a production announcement, that script within the play "is about a city he is going to build that is going to change the world; about his brother; about everyone who loves Disney and how sad they are going to be when he is gone."

Sarah Benson, artistic director of Soho Rep, will stage the play -- described as an "adrenaline-charged odyssey" -- in the company's Off Broadway home, running April 30 through May 26.
