Creativity Fund: Daniel Beaty

Jan 28 2013 (All day) -- Jan 29 2013 (All day)

Mr. Joy by Daniel Beaty

Directed by Sheryl Kaller
Sound by Lindsay Jones
Photography/Projections by Josh Lehrer
Stage-managed by Jane Pole.

Mr. Joy is a Chinese American immigrant who has run a shoe shop in the heart of Harlem for the past 25 years when an unexpected occurrence causes several of his customers to reflect on the impact he has had on their lives through their shoes. What has happened to this community's joy and what will it take to reclaim it? Using Daniel's signature blend of comedy, poetry, music, and multi-character transformation, Mr. Joy is a hilarious and heart-warming exploration of one community's journey to heal in order to dream again and discover boundless joy.

The working portion of this Creativity Fund project is closed. There will be public presentations of the work in progress on January 30 and 31 at 3:30pm.

Creativity Fund offers playwrights the opportunity to workshop new plays or musicals for up to five days.
