In a modern Greek tragedy, Ruby Salazar, a full-figured Filipina American, dreams of graduating from San Jose State University and becoming a teacher. Edwina, her ex-beauty queen mother, sees Ruby as a shameless walking eating disorder. She takes a refund on Ruby’s tuition in order to fund her sister, Jemmalyn’s blossoming pageant career. Can the support of her voluptuous friends outweigh her mother’s venom? Ruby will have to summon every pound of her being to get her mother to look beyond her curves.
