River of Gruel: The Requirement(s) of Narrow Approach(es)
A certain number of years ago, a woman traveled, on foot, from her own mighty but cold and crowded home to the open, sunny, and joyful city of Austin, TX. She felt akin to the people and places and radio stations here, as if part of her psyche had lived here all along. She returned again and again, as people do in this land that lays close in the heart, and learned the ways of its people, and eventually made an appeal to the Council of Elders to come and work with the pillars of the theatrical community for a time. That plea was granted and representatives from four tribes were brought together with the woman in what is known as a Pig Pile. This presentation is a humble offering to the wider population of the City of New York some of the work that is being born of this Pig Pile, both in NYC and in Austin, TX. It is thanks to a New Dramatists/Full Stage USA commission that their work can happen.
In April of next year the piece will premiere in completed form at the Fusebox Festival in Austin. For now it is a nascent but vast collection of unrelated objects AND WE WANT TO SHARE SOME OF OUR FAVORITES WITH YOU! Please join us in sampling the fruits of a week-long work period here at the church.
