Room Touch Sound

a lab showing of five very different short theater pieces all inspired by the same sound event

Conceived and hosted by Kenneth Prestininzi
Sonic artist: Brendan Connelly
Playwrights: Mashuq Mushtaq Deen, Lynn Rosen, Aurin Squire, Melisa Tien

The impulse for this lab is based on the art-making practices of Pina Bausch, John Cage, and Merce Cunningham. It also provides the playwrights the opportunity to work with a sound artist as a main and primary collaborator in generating new writing.

"Our emotions are constantly being propelled by some new face in the sky, some new rocket to the moon, some new sound in the ear, but they are the same emotions." - Merce Cunningham

"There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In fact, try as we may to make a silence, we cannot." - John Cage

"Though every piece is different, they are all trying to get at certain things that are difficult to put into words. In the work, everything belongs to everything else - the music, the set, the movement and whatever is said." - Pina Bausch
