Malvolio, a play with music
book & lyrics by Betty Shamieh
music by Matt Gould

Malvolio, a play with music is a sequel to Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Set twenty years later, Malvolio becomes a celebrated general in the King of Illyria’s army. It’s wartime. Mavolio and his brave soldiers, known as the Legion of the Cross-Gartered, defeat the fearsome Barbarian Empire. He returns to seek vengeance on those who humiliated him in his younger years. Volina, the serious-minded teenage daughter of Viola and Orsino, falls madly in love with Malvolio, who believes the beautiful girl is mocking him with her ardent displays of passion. Volina tries to teach Malvolio how success – and a young lover - is always the best revenge.

The working portion of this Creativity Fund project is closed. There will be an open rehearsal for this work-in-progress on Thursday, April 2, 2pm.

The Creativity Fund offers playwrights extended time to explore and develop new plays and musicals up to five days.
