This workshop is $40. To enroll please write to us at ndworkshops@yahoo.com immediately. Placement is extremely limited.

BAD WORDS

Through a series of exercises and discussions, we will experiment with using dumb words, bad words, no words, and other people's words. We will write inarticulate poetry and explore how playwriting can make language look at itself in a way that prose can't. A low-pressure workshop designed to make you write as not-yourself in order to maybe, one day, find yourself.

Annie Baker grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her full-length plays include Circle Mirror Transformation (Playwrights Horizons, OBIE Award for Best New American Play, Drama Desk nomination for Best Play), The Aliens (Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, OBIE Award for Best New American Play), and Body Awareness (Atlantic Theater Company, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Play/Emerging Playwright). Her plays have also been produced regionally by South Coast Rep, Guthrie Theater, Victory Gardens, Artists Rep, Huntington Theatre Company, Seattle Rep, Studio Theatre in DC, Hyde Park Theatre, Kansas City Rep, and San Francisco Playhouse, and have been produced internationally in London, Melbourne, Sydney, and Buenos Aires. She has developed work at Signature Theatre, MCC, New York Theatre Workshop, Soho Rep, Orchard Project, Ontological-Hysteric, Cape Cod Theatre Project, Bay Area Playwrights Festival and Sundance Institute Theatre Lab in Utah and Ucross, Wyoming. Annie is a member of New Dramatists, MCC’s Playwrights Coalition and EST, and she is an alumna of Youngblood, Ars Nova’s Play Group and the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab. Recent honors include a New York Drama Critics Circle Award, a Susan Smith Blackburn Prize nomination, a Lilly Award, a Time Warner Storytelling Fellowship, a MacDowell fellowship and a Master Artist Residency at Atlantic Center for the Arts. A published anthology of her work, The Vermont Plays, will be published by TCG in November 2011, and her adaptation of Uncle Vanya will have its world premiere at Soho Rep in June 2012.
