Writing Workshop: Kristoffer Diaz

Jan 7 2012 - 12:00pm -- 3:00pm

FAST, LOUD, AND (SOMEWHAT) IN-CONTROL: COMEDY THAT STINGS (AND SELLS) -- Comedy is *not* about jokes. That's all I'm going to tell you. Okay, I'll tell you more. At this class. Once you've paid. Come on, it's for a good cause. I'll lecture a little, probably show some clips from shows like Arrested Development and Parks and Rec, talk about why The Princess Bride is even better as a book than a movie, and go off on a rant about how easy it would be to update The Importance of Being Earnest to the present day (and why it still might be the best comedy ever written, unless that's Noises Off, which is a whole different thing, really). In the second half of class, you'll learn tips and tricks to generate mountains of material (follow your second instinct, for example), refine that material to actually get to the funny, and, if there's time, actually begin to write some comedy.

Kristoffer's workshop is part of our new outreach program designed by the playwrights at New Dramatists. These monthly workshops, led by our resident playwrights, are offered to the general public for just $40. This is a dual service program. All PROCEEDS go toward an emergency fund for writers in-need who apply...

This workshop has sold-out - please email us at ndworkshops@yahoo.com to be put on our mailing list for future opportunities.
